Description:

Bashi-Bazouks

Unpainted plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale depicting Turkish Bashi-Bazouks during late 19th century.

The Bashi-Bazouks were irregular soldiers of the Ottoman army, typically recruited during times of conflict. Primarily composed of Albanians and Circassians, these soldiers hailed from various ethnic backgrounds within the Ottoman Empire, including European and African slaves. Known for their lack of discipline and brutal behavior, Bashi-Bazouks gained notoriety for looting and targeting civilians due to the absence of strict regulations and the expectation that they would sustain themselves through pillaging and exploiting the land.

Box contains 52 figures in 13 poses (note that one of the poses is a Streltsi bonus figure).

Despite Strelets intended this set (and the mounted counter part Strelets – 109 – Russo-Turkish War 1877 Bashi-Bazouks) for the Russo-Turkish war of 1877, this figures can be used without problem in other conflicts of the 19th century, as for example in the Crimean War.

Figures included here are quite nicely done, and are a very good depiction of the subject. The selection of poses is fair, and the only odd is the 4x format with some too much repetition of some of the poses, what would have been enough with just one, as for example the flag bearer.
