Description:

Crimean War Lord Cardigan’s 11th Hussars

Unpainted plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale depicting British Hussars during the Crimean War.

In 1985 this was the first 1/72 scale plastic soldiers released ever for the Crimean War, together with the Russian artillery set (ESCI – 221 – Crimean War Russian Infantry and Artillery), and clearly intended for the “Charge of Light Brigade” during the Balaclava battle.

The British Light Brigade was composed of three different corps, in between them the Hussars were one, present with two regiments, the 4th and 11th, which is the subject of this set.

The figures present the usual good quality of ESCI, which in many cases still stands in the top of the hobby for some subjects even after 40 years and this set is not an exception. The poses are just 5 for 12 figures, a common split by ESCI and repeated later in other brands, they are clearly charging as the horses are.

The main problem of this set is one of the very distinctive items in the Hussars costume, the left shoulder pelisses, which is nicely modeled here, but the problem is they don’t wore it in the charge during Balaclava battle.

Sprue.
