Description:

Ural Cossacks

Unpainted plastic soldiers in 1/72 scale depicting Ural Cossacks in Russian service during the Crimean War.

All the Cossack cavalry served as light cavalry, and in many cases, most of the different Cossack Hosts had a similar resemblance in the battle (with the exception of the Caucasian Hosts as Strelets – 026 – (Crimean War) Russian Terek Cossacks). Figures depicted here are fine for the topic and a wider range of Hosts. All wear the long greatcoat (except the Officer), hiding any other clothes below and everything is properly sculpted and depicted.

This box contains 13 figures, 12 are mounted (in 6 different horses pose) and one is a bonus Streltsi foot figure. The horses are the same seen in the other Cossack Cavalry sets by Strelets for the Crimean War, the set split in 3 sprues, two equal sprues for the horses and one single sprue with the 12 different riders, which is a generous sculpture effort by making all of them different.

Weapons are split in a proportional way, between lances, swords, pistols and carbines, while personal taste can prone to like some of the weapons more than other, or depending of the specific action one weapons would prevail over other, it’s a good balance with possibilities to use all the figures.

Attach of the figures to the sprue is the usual “rough” by Strelets, in particular you need to be careful when removing the lances and some of the riders need some effort to fit in the horses.

In our opinion it’s a good set, for a particular subject not covered by anyone else in 1/72 scale plastic soldiers.
