The Crimean War in 1/72 scale

The Crimean War (1853-1856) was a conflict primarily fought between the Russian Empire and an alliance consisting of the Ottoman Empire, France, Britain, and Sardinia. The war originated from disputes over religious rights and access to holy places in Jerusalem, as well as Russia’s desire to expand its influence in the declining Ottoman Empire.

Key battles included the Siege of Sevastopol, where the Allies sought to capture a crucial Russian port, the Battle of Balaclava, famous for the Charge of the Light Brigade, the Charge of the Heavy Brigade and the Thin Red Line events, the Battle of the Alma and the Battle of Inkerman.

It ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1856, which secured territorial integrity for the Ottoman Empire and limited Russian influence in the Black Sea.

Several brands showed interest in the conflict, starting by ESCI in the 80s, who released two sets for the conflict, around the events of the Charge of the Light Brigade with nice figures as usually ESCI did, but with a very noticeable mistake in their British Hussars figure set, as they included the left shoulder pelisse which was not there in Balaclava.

Years later, Emhar and Strelets, retook the interest in the conflict, being Emhar the one to produce the finest figures for the conflict (some of them later reissued by Imex) and being Strelets the one who did a deeper coverage of the conflict adding lot of particular subjects.
